Dr. Kyounggon Kim is an Assistant Professor at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) and a founding member of the Center of Excellence in Cybercrime and Digital Forensics (CoECDF). He teaches cybersecurity, cybercrime, and network forensics. Prior to joining NAUSS, he was an industry-university cooperative concentration professor at Korea University, where he taught offensive cyber capabilities to graduate and undergraduate students. He is also a representative security consulting mentor at the Best of the Best (BoB) program sponsored by the Korean government. During this more than 15-year career, he has conducted penetration testing for over 130 clients in various industries, including financial, energy, and consumer sectors, while working for Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and boutique consulting firms.

From 2016 summer to 2020, Dr. Kim had been lectured on basic and advanced hacking practices to undergraduate and graduate students at Korea University. His lectures are unique, covering the big picture of hacking and all areas of offensive security, including encryption hacking, network hacking, web hacking, system hacking, reverse engineering, mobile hacking, and IoT (Internet of Things) hacking. He also provides background on Korean hacker's history and threat actors, including state-sponsored hackers. His classes are highly popular, with all seats filled within minutes of opening. He has also been invited by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to serve as a lecturer for the Western/Asia professors to promote the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, and he is a member of the UNODC E4J initiative.

Dr. Kim leads various BoB (Best of the Best) projects as a mentor, including research on state-sponsored hacker techniques and trends, smart-home vulnerability and countermeasure, Z-Wave security vulnerability, ROS (Robot Operation System) vulnerabilities and countermeasure,  brain-hacking security, instant message vulnerability analysis and countermeasure. Many of his students have received Best 10 Students prizes in the BoB program, and his teaching style helps students realize their full potential. 

Before joining Korea University, Dr. Kim worked for over nine years at Deloitte (2012-2016) and PwC (2008-2011), where he was involved in Risk Advisory and Cyber Risk services. He has a strategic mindset for security, audit, and IT risk and provided security strategy consulting and security masterplans to large organizations. He has extensive knowledge of compliance, business processes, and security organizations and has led various compliance-based security consulting projects, including ISO 27001, ISMS, PIMS, and PCI-DSS, for clients in the consumer industry. He also managed IT audit and internal audit engagements and provided computer forensic services for both domestic and global companies. Dr. Kim wrote the entire computer forensic manual for PwC Korea and provided security architecture advise to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security of the Korea Government, as well as the Indonesia Government.     

Dr. Kim is a member of CISSP and CISA and was invited to the CISSP exam translation workshop from ISC2 headquarter due to his outstanding expert experiences. He also received the sixth-place prize in the DefCon CTF 2007 and the first prize at the 1st Hacking Defense Contest hosted by the Korea Information Security Agency. He was awarded the Excellent Teaching Award in Korea University in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Dr. Kim has written an internet hacking and security book and translated numerous security books. His research interests include cybercrimes, offensive security for smart city, financial cybersecurity, and national security.
